Tony Awards 2017

The actual name is the Antoniette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theatre but more popularly and easier to say, the Tony Award. You may not hear much about the Tony’s because they are awarded for Broadway shows and actors/actresses. However, like I do at every other event, I must peep the red carpet.

Below are  some of my favorites:

I automatically loved Scarlett Johanssen’s white Michael Kors pin-striped and beaded suit

I also liked Thalia’s multicolored Elie Madi gown

I personally love the Naeem Khan designer and this dress is yet another favorite worn by Sara Bareilles

I loved this satin dress on Condola Rashad

I also liked how Alek Wek wore her outfit straight off the Oscar de la Renta FW2017 runway with this beautifully different velvet dress and nicely embellished boots

Fave couple on the red carpet: Chrissy Teigan and John Legend

FLA stands for the “Fashion Los Angeles Awards” and you may have seen this hashtag all over for the past couple of days and that is because all “it” celebrities came together and attended this award show that was held at … ,LA this past Sunday. This is actually their Third Annual show and what a show it was. i honestly wish I had learned about this award show before but it seems like it is still young but growing!

Kim K presented the “Creative of the Year” award to Mert Alas. I know there a lot of Kim K fans out there but that dress did NOT do it for me at all and I am entitled to my own opinion as Fashion enthusisast myself, Thank You! I was a bit taken aback when I found out it was from Givenchy Haute Couture (F/W 2011) but even though I love the brand I did not really like this white gown. I loved the basic concept which was white and sheer (which also seemed to be the theme, along with Hadid) but I was not a fan of the embellishments on top. In my opinion, all the embellishments did not compliment her frame. It looked better on the runway model’s shoulder frame and arms than on Kim K. Believe me, it has nothing to do with the fact that Kim K is fuller than the model obivoulsThe bottom half, along with the bodysuit did look good on her though.

Fergie (sorry but not a fan of her choice of Dsquared2 dress and pair of shoes) dress herself presented the “Fashion Rebel” award to Nicki Minaj. Minaj wore a Versace number from the S/S 2017 collection. She did not wear a gown but she wore a short dress or of what looks like a very long vest jacket. She was wearing all Versace everything with the belt and boots also being Versace brand. Another brand I love, classic Versace. However, I do not like how Minaj or her stylist put it together. Honestly, I feel like something that could’ve been put together and worn in a chic way instead was cheapened. The boots are cool and different but don’t go with this ensemble. I don’t think that she accessorized well either, while the low cut plunge would call for a statement necklace, the lapel just does not go well with the kind of necklace she picked.

Jhene Aiko did not win an award but I think she still deserves a mention thanks to that outfit. This is one of the rare occasions when on an actual person looks better than on the runway! She is wearing an ensemble from “Hellessy” (Resort 2017) Athough the fit seems oversized on her nice petite frame it still carries the outfit well.

Other awards that I feel should be mentioned: Paris Jackson accepts the award of “Emerging Talent.” Ashton Kutcher presented the “Best Men’s Stylist” award to Samantha McMillen. Lee Daniels presented the “Fashion Visionary” award to  Stephen Gan. “Best Women’s Stylist” went to Karla Welch. “Model of the Year” award went to Stella Maxwell. “Designer of the Year” award went to Jonathan Saunders of DVF (Diane von Furstenberg)

SAG Awards’ Best and Worst!

[ Not sure if you saw previous post but I was having technical difficulties from misunderstandings with my hosting company but now that that is all fixed, I am back :) ]

One important difference that I did not know before is that the SAG Awards are unique and probably the actors’ favorite because the actors themselves vote! Isn’t that great? The 23rd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards was held at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles this past Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017. Well, now onto the Fashion! Below are some of my favorites and my not so favorites as well:

My absolute favorite has to go to my favorite actress, Kerry Washington in that beautiful white Cavalli Couture gown! This was my favorite gown of the whole night. Not only did it look great on her figure but it has two of my most favorite features, the Swarovski-beaded leopard design (of course!) and the over the shoulder design down to the long sleeves. I honestly love everything about this gown and hope to one day find something similar to this!

Nicole Kidman, who usually has this whole dressing for important events and red carpets down to the T, always looking so effortlessly beautiful. However, I think she kind of lost it this night with this gown. Don’t get me wrong I do like some features like the color, design, and what is to be for the hair of the birds at edges of shoulders, of this Gucci gown but the toucan heads on the shoulders? Noo

Janelle Monáe is usually chic but I don’t exactly know about this Chanel number. Definitely looks too busy for my taste but she some how pulls it off, like if it was meant to be for her.

Taraji P. Henson, one of my favorite actresses, looked beautiful in this Reem Acra gown. Absolutely loved the bottom of the dress but didn’t feel the same about the top. The sheerness seamed a little too much like I didn’t want to see that much of her chest but the most confusing of this gown seemed to have been the unnecessary black bows that were added. Nevertheless, Taraji looked great and happy throughout the night and a congratulations is in order for her win! (hds)

Salma Hayek, in Gucci, the bodice and lower part looked great on her and nobody could’ve worn it better than her but I am not really crazy about the top with that oversized flower and ruffle!

I loved Jocelyn Towne’s stand with her outspoken accessory across her chest reading “Let them in” absolutely loved it. Also loved how her partner, Simon Helberg. also made a statment buy carrying a sign that read “: As for her dress it was nice one but I actually like Simon Helberg’s suit better. Definitely liked his velvet blazer

Viola Davis looked great in this white gown that even though white and satin, did not look like a wedding dress but instead simple but sexy at the same time.

Ariel Winter from “Modern Family,” who I have recently been seeing supporting more body positivity lately, looks amazing in this gold gown

Michelle Williams has not been getting much positive feedback because of her choice of gowns along with her neck accessories. However, I think what she wore last was great, liked it more than this ensemble but its still a nice look in this metallic Louis Vuitton gown. Did not immediately like her choice of a choker at first but then it kind of grew on me a bit, not so bad as other critics are saying though.

Natalie Portman looks cute pregnant but what she has been wearing lately, not so much. For the SAG awards she chose to wear this Christian Dior gown and I don’t know it doesn’t really do anything for me. No offense, but it just looks like a white curtain over her.

Emily Blunt is beautiful and she chose a nice Roberto Cavalli dress but I do not think it was the best for her. She didn’t really wear it well.

Kate Hudson’s dress made me go () because I liked it at same time, not so much; love the cape feature and the sheer, pleated skirt but I do not know about what looks like a belt. The big ol flower I am definitely not a fan of! So honestly I do not know how I fully feel about this Dior gown.

Woman of the hour last award show, Meryl Streep, looked nice in her Valentino gown. I was not too crazy about it because I don’t believe it was very flattering…

I did love Giuliana Rancic’s gown! Definitely bling-tastic being all blinged out but still kept in classy way.

But my absolute favorite came down to (drum roll please) has to go to one of my favorite actresses, Kerry Washington in that beautiful white Cavalli Couture gown! Not only did it look great on her figure but it has two of my most favorite features, the Swarovski-beaded leopard design (of course!) and the over the shoulder design down to the long sleeves. I honestly love everything about this gown and hope to one day find something similar to this!

So which one was your favorite?? Comment below:

Golden Globes 2017

First and for most props to Meryl Streep for that honest yet classy speech that she gave!

“And this instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing.

Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. And when the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose. Okay. Go on with that thing.” — Well said Meryl

Now for the Fashion!

Below you will see my lists of “LOVE”, “LIKE”, “FUERA!” (Lol I think many of my Latin fans know where I got this from..remember Sabado Gigante?! {} for those that don’t know google “El Chacal” @ “Sabado Gigante”)

Slayage at the CMAs!

Like the song begins, “Texas! Texas!” Queen Bey did it the Texas way, Big! Her gowns to the CMAs (Country Music Association Awards) were over-the-top but I think it is safe to say that they were a very good over-the-top!

Her gown arriving was a beautiful white and floral ensemble by Zuhair Murad which she paired with one of her favorite jewelers’, Lorraine Schwartz, diamond pear-shaped drop earrings. She also rocked the  Antebellum puff shoulder sleeve that has actually been her signature look lately.

Her amazing performance gown was beautiful with see-through details (the way she does it best) a deep keyhole neckline and oversize mutton-chop exaggerated sleeves were a great added bonus . Her statement accessories again by Lorraine Schwartz, including an emerald cut diamond choker, a diamond mesh and pearl necklace and diamond straight line earrings.

With every salvage comes controversy of course () Beyonce and the Dixie Chicks go a lot of blacklash through social media. I first read that many were offended that Beyonce was not even mentioned by CMAs. Reading more, personally I just got aggravated more because people actually had a problem with Beyonce “an anti-racist” performing with the already controversial Dixie Chicks to begin with!? Not sure if you remember back at the Super Bowl, Beyonce actually got a lot of negative reactions to her performance and the way she was dressed in “Black Panther” inspired attire making a bold stand with the Black Lives Matter Movement () I didn’t know this before but the Dixie Chicks themselves have been loud spoken before upsetting many people when they said they were ashamed to have been from same state as George Washington Bush. Things got as bad as to have been banned from their very own, country industry!

With knowing all this and still choosing to perform together at an majorly watched country, I give all these ladies even more respect because they were definitely making a statement & I loved it!

#TBT Fave Looks of Michelle Obama

For Throwback Thursday I wanted to honor the FLOTUS’s style. (FLOTUS stands for First Lady of the United States) It is sad to see her and President Obama go :( Aside from my reasons, I always liked the way they carried themselves and of course because I am so into fashion I just had to do a double take on what she wore! Below are some of my favorites other than the ones I have posted about in the past:

Some of Michella Obama’s best looks

Slaying the State Dinner

Michelle Obama has been the first First Lady’s style that I have watched closely. Not sure if it is her personal style or if she relies on a stylist but I have loved a lot of her outfits. I definitely loved her gown at their final state dinner at Washington DC, yes their final state dinner while at office :(

Mobama (Michelle Obama’s nickname) chose to wear a custom made rose gold Atelier Versace gown, definitely red carpet ready. I love this gown for two reasons; one reason being that I am currently into rose gold everything right now: phone cases, jewelry, and even hair (insert previous post) and second, I am liking the style and the way it fits Mobama’s body shape. Ruched at her waist in an elegant yet chic way is just her style. We should not forget about the President himself, looking dapper in his tux.

Donnatella Versace herself was proud to have made it for her: “I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to dress the first lady of the United States Michelle Obama. Thank you, Michelle, for all of the things you have done for America and for the rest of the world, for the women in the United States and the rest of the world.”

Michelle Obama has been known to wear from designers such as Marchesa, Carolina Herrera, Jason Wu, Alexander McQueen, and Brandon Maxwell.

#TBT Remember that Fashion Rule?

That almighty rule that one cannot wear white after Labor Day?! Well growing up I always wondered why this was such a big rule. Who made such a rule anyway!? Well there are many opinions to this rule..(you can read a funny one here) However, I am happy that this rule can be broken. One of my favorite celebrity styles, Nicole Kidman, broke this well-known fashion rule but looked great doing it.

You are probably like me and most likely saw Nicole Kidman more on red carpets to classy events always with a gown. But seeing her in this suit makes me believe she has more than gowns in her closet. Here she is attending the BFI London Film Festival in a crisp white blazer and wide leg pants (Alberta Ferretti) She paired her power suit with gold mesh Giuseppe Zanotti sandals of course. She completed her outfit with an Amanda Wakeley clutch. Her ensemble was simple yet stunning.

If you are interested in trying this look I found a couple of great white blazers $100 and under:

TopShop, $100
Mango, $80

CFDA 2016!

Yesterday was the CFDA awards! The Council of Fashion Designers of America awards took place yesterday in my beautiful city, NYC!  This annual event is to recognize the outstanding contributions made to American fashion! This is an invite-only type of event! With only the top fashion retailers, stylists and influencers!! (If only *dreamy voice*)

CFDA Trophy!
CFDA Trophy!

Of course I am not completely surprised that Queen Bey was honored as a fashion icon!

Queen Bey accepts her CFDA Fashion Icon Award

Along with gracefully accepting her award she also spoke about her and her mothers struggles with fashion in the beginning. You may not have known but her mother was the one behind some of her famous dresses like her wedding dress, her first Grammy dress and first CFDA dress! “This to me is the true power and potential of fashion. It’s a tool for finding your own identity, expression, truth. It transcends style, and is a time capsule for all of our greatest milestones.” Beyonce finishes off by saying, “I encourage you to not forget this power that you have or take it lightly. We have an opportunity to contribute to a society where any girl can look at a billboard or magazine and see her own reflection.” Amazing words..

Now ladies, I try to be as honest as possible. I have also let it be known how much I love Beyonce and her talent and her fashion but honestly I do not think I absolutely love her outfit :/ Even though her diamond encrusted Givenchy suit was worth more than $9 million (diamond worth alone!), I wasn’t sold. Wide brimmed hat didn’t quite help either.

Oscar 2016 Fashion!

I unfortunately did not get to watch the Oscars this past Sunday but I did hear the amazing news which I was rooting for, Leonardo DiCaprio’s big win! Other than that, I am more focused on what the celebrities wore! Below you will see some of my favorites on the Red Carpet.

Who I loved ❤️

I loved Lady Gaga’s elegant yet chic ensemble from Brandon Maxwell.image

I loved Rooney Mara’s sexy white gown from Givenchy Couture.

I loved Priyanka Chopra’s very sexy gown from Zuhair Murad with a Rauwolf clutch.

I loved Chrissy Teigen in Marchesa.

I loved how Margot Robbie looked like a female Oscar throphy herself in Tom Ford.

imageWho I liked 👍🏼

I liked Rachel McAdams’ long and elegant gown from August Getty Atelier

I liked Olivia Wilde in Valentino Couture

I liked how Kate Winslet was very simple yet elegant in Ralph Lauren

Daisy Ridley in Chanel Couture..I must be honest when I first scrolled through everyone’s gown I passed right by this one but I gave it a second look and it is sweet loving gown..

Last but not least, Ms. Kerry Washington, one of the celebrities that doesn’t let me down in how she dresses, seemed to have chosen a bold dress of which I have to look twice at because I definitely liked the bottom skirt but I am not such a big fun of the top (still love you, Olivia Pope lol)

Who I didn’t like 👎🏼

Heidi Klum usually dresses quite lovely but I think it was a miss in this Marchesa gown

Jennifer Jason Leigh in Rodarte

Sandy Powell smh I like that she was giving tribute to David Bowie in this Ziggy Stardust inspired suit but I just cannot like it especially with her choice of necklace..sorry I just can’t like :/

Last but not least, Amy Poehler, I love her and her work but this dress by Andrew Gn did no favors for her :(
